Installing curling ice takes approx. 1 week to properly install. First there are several floods of water at approximately 100 gallons of water per sheet of ice that is preferably de-ionized. This will improve the quality and the regularity of the ice temperature. At a surface temperature of about 25 degrees f, flood until the ice is level. Installing the hacks and painting the ice surface comes next, The entire rink is covered with white paint and then followed by the rings usually red and blue. After painting, lines made out of ribbon or wool are installed and then everything is sealed in. A final flood or two is applied after. An ice scrapper usually battery operated is used to completely level the ice. Finally the ice is covered with water droplets that is referred to as pebble. The ice is ready to play on. NOTE. (This is still just a basic overview)

If you shave it with a blade of some kind, the ice will curl. Kind of like when you're whittling wood.

It's built up in layers, like a skate rink but then it's "pebbled" by sprinkling the water on rather than flooding. The pebbling apparatus is rather like a very elaborate watering can.
