It's the Bible thumpin Bible Belt. Think about it. When Clinton was pres, the biggest international news was Monica and an impeachment effort because our President didn't always keep his pecker in his pants and his wife accepted it as a "flaw" in his character. That clearly was the end to civilization for our loud mouth moral majority that is neither moral or a majority! Then came OJ -- the other big international news. (Okay, I'm skipping stuff, but you get the picture about the times of slick willy - a really good politician internationally and domestically - but hey liberal in his sexual philanderings.)

Then, GW literally steals the election. Half the country still believes it was illegally "won." Then, there's ongoing terrorism in the world that begins to saturate our media. Then, there's 9/11 which I always will wonder if we'd had a different pres, if it'd still have happened. While the country is shocked and devasted not just in NYC but in DC (the Pentagon for Christ's sake), GW and his criminals sit on their thumbs for a couple months trying to figure out how to make it about Iraq so he can best his daddy and make Chaney's friends even richer. We listen to infinite questionable crap about WMD, blah, blah, and then do a first attack on an innocent country. Pre-emptive war is not something everybody here ever bought - not by a long shot. So, again, you have a divided country but since our kids are being sent out to die for these rich bastards, we temper our outrage for the sake of the troops. And, during shock and cowardly politician period, GW slips throught the f*cking Patriot Act which is anything but. It scares the shiit out of many for a while 'cause who the hell knows how far our rights and freedoms were just forsaken. Then finally, the truth starts to come out. There are a lot of pissed off people here. That's what a lot of the anger and hating is about. Easier to take it out on the weaker folks. That's another comonality universally shared. It sucks to be an American right now. It's embarassing and down right shameful.

All that ranting said, the point is that the country is more divided than the world sees. That is why there is so much anger. We are not at all happy with the present shape of our government and all have a looming sense that it's gonna get worse before it gets better. Religion has got to get out of politics!

Aah. I had to get that off my chest even if I do end up on one of GW's watch lists.

uh...wait...
you resent the fact that Americans make hateful generalizations, yet you justify that by making up your own?
I must agree with some of the things on here. Americans are a great, loving, welcoming people who are very accepting. its just that the freakos who are in positions of power have a more visible image...and that as immigration escalates and native birth rates go down, people will feel threatened. like in France with French Muslims and Africans.
but apparently its fashionable to hate Americans so, as an American, I just should play into your hands right??

it does make you wonder doesn't it...we're the greatest nation on earth, have so many rights, privileges...we're the richest and most blessed and still we act like low class animals judging others on things that are senseless like color, gender, sexual preference...etc, etc. although i do think there really are more good people out there its just the extremists and haters seem to get more attention...its a shame really as i know a lot of happy, content people who do an awful lot of good but its overlooked. too i don't think its just americans, it seems the whole world and all the different nationalities are fussing and fighting all the time about one thing or another.

No. they are just really ignorant.

Try Saudi Arabia where they shoot alot of things and people for doing your normal everyday stuffs. In terms of racism it would be Japanese (no immigration policy), Saudis (must follow every bit of islamic law if you wish work in that country) and Germans (skin heads have too much power).

Unhappiness comes from never being content. you don't know when to say ENOUGH is enough. Mr Jones has a new toy so the entire neighborhood has to have it.

unhappiness can also come from living a life without much of a purpose.

Most of us are not that way. I experience very little negativity due to my many differences and neither do most of my Filipino friends. Unfortunately, the haters have loud voices. Don't be fooled. They think they are fighting the battle of Jericho again and that they will win if they just run around screaming enough. Most Americans are friendly and open.

In my experience, those who treated me bad weren't happy either because they didn't get thier way so they took it out on me,in bad relationships while I was in a good one or just plain in unhappy.. Sometimes depressed people take and treat people bad to try to make themselves better. This is just what those in my life have done.I can't speak for everyone who hates other people or treat people bad.I have noticed the happier you are,the less mean and hateful you are.Not everyone gives in to the negitive energy.I know some people who are sickenly positive(rarely negitive or hateful).

I agree, I'm not sure why. Perhaps it's remnants of the Victorian/Puritan culture that still affect us, drawing the line in the sand for morality and decency. While Europe moved past that, we were isolated from them and so missed the chance to grow.

I'm coming to the conclusion that the word 'hate' is being abysmaly abused lately. People like Raunch Limbone foster this trend with their scatter-gun accusations such as "...liberals ...they hate this country and want the president to fail", or words to that effect.

I *dislike* the whole "money is the root of all evil" thing, but it seems hate has a positive influence on armament industry and oil industry earnings as well as gov bureaucracies. And that comes to about 50% of individual earnings. So theres alot of money behind hate.
