social developments are hospitals, and schools, both are economic development too, but provide indirect benefit.
social overhead capital like bridges, roads, and communications systems are also needed but indirect development.
economic development comes from investment in goods or services, and profit.
ed also comes from increased population.
this is what drives american growth, the continued influx of the hispanics. economic growth is an ever expanding pie, as opposed to a zero sum gain where anything you get is at my expense. with a huge pie like america, we all get better off.
look at the size of houses being built today versus the size of the house your parents lived in when they got married

social development means development in social welfare activities such as education, health care,and other community services. social development bares a cost.
economic development is where funds has been utilized to increase production, human capital, auxilary services like transportation, communication etc..
todays governments trying thier level best to balance thier expenditure for both economic & social development as both of them are vital for the overall growth of a given economy.
if a government decides to wire thier funds to social development, the opportunity cost will be economic development and vice versa. because whatever development they choose, the resources are scare.

The difference is money I'd say...Social development involves mainly intrinsic development can't always be transformed into monetary units, while economic development is based on monetary units.
