Everyone puts down IE. I really dont know why. I've been dealing with computers and the internet for the longest time, and ive always found Internet Explorer to be better than Firefox.

Search google for a file called HiJack This, run it, and look for malicious programs, and if the program is too complicated, try ad-aware or even the 15 day free trial for Norton Anti-Virus. Those should do the trick.

To Mr #Red-
United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team:
"There are a number of significant vulnerabilities in technologies related to the IE...It is possible to reduce exposure to these vulnerabilities by using a different web browser"
http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/713878

PcWorld Magazine:
"Internet Explorer 6.x might be the least secure software on the planet"
http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,125772-page,3/article.html

Why not to use Norton:
"Top selling antivirus applications don't work is because malware authors are specifically testing their Trojans and viruses to make sure they can bypass these applications before releasing them in the wild...The most popular brands of antivirus on the market (Norton, McAfee)… have an 80 percent miss rate"

sounds like it's having a hard time establishing an ip address. this won't help connect but will make the process quicker. us a different browser. i use mozilla has less trash to load as IE. however (don't) delete IE you'll still need it for some applications. don't get the latest might have bugs i'm using 1.7.8 without any problem.
