In the case of airports and sporting events, the vendors actually need to pay a portion of the sales to the owner of the property or venue, causing a high price to the end user. The "rent" to sell in those places is high for the obvious large amount of sales these vendors can have. For places like movies, the movie ticket itself is actually not very profitable for the theatre owner, therefore the markup of the snack items is where a lot of the profit is made.

You answered your own question when you said, "I went to an angels game today and i spent $6 on two small slices of pizza. then i had a malt for $3.50". Dont buy it and they may eventually lower the prices

Oh at my local amusement park it was $7.00 for a slice of pizza. $7.00!!! That's how much a whole freakin pizza out in town costs. And I went to Mexico for vacation..I spent 7 bucks on a small bag of pretzel (.50 in a US vending machine) and a can of coke (75 cents in a US vending machine). I was soo annoyed by that! They are overpriced because they know they have a little monopoly going b/c they either don't allow outside food in the place and they know they are the only ones that you can buy it from, or because it's quick and convenient yet rather expensive, and if people are hungry--they will buy it!! :)

At a movie theater, like 80-90% of ticket sales goes directly to the company who distributes the movie. So the only $$ the actual theater makes is from the food. It has to be really expensive or the theater doesn't make any profit.

Because you just named three places that trap you. You can;t leave a football game for food and get back in. So if you want food you have to get it there and it will cost you. Same at the movies. The airport you aren't going to leave and go back through security between flights, they got you. They know you won't/can't leave and they can charge whatever the "market" (market referring to the limited space) will bear.

They always hike up the prices at places where there are going to be a lot of people. Supply and demand. If we all stopped buying food and souvenirs etc. they would be forced to lower prices because they would be losing money. Sad but true.

because they're the only option, and vendors know they can get away with it.
they have a captive audience, you're not allowed to bring your own food or drinks to these places, but you'll be there for hours, and no doubt need them.
I wish I could get in on that racket.

Because it's convenient. So you don't have to leave where you are just to get some food.
