North's economy was much more industrial and focused on building more railways.

South's Economy was more agricultural and focused on labour (ie. slaves used for cotton picking...etc)

Religiously, the North was being torn into a million different directions because of new religions being formed and Canda and Natives. So they were much more lineant with what religion you were. Catholics, Christians and Mormons dominated I THINK.

In the south, Christianity was all there was. Unless you wanted to be hung. There were small derivations of christianity that were formed, but nothing to out of the ordinary...(except the KKK).

And politically speaking, it was the same type of government (Republic), they just had a difference of opinion as to what type of programs should be run.
