what was was your favorite scene of the novel and why?

The end when she comes back and walks past those nosy people on the porch (Mouth Almighty). She's a proud woman, head held high, not letting anyone get her down.

I like the scene where they have the funeral for the mule, and then all the vultures are watching and waiting for their leader before they can feast on the carcass. The vultures symbolize the people in the town, and the interaction between them sort of satirizes the relationship that Eatonville has with Joe.
Sorry I can't explain better, its been about 2 years since I read it. good book, though.

If this is the book about the middle aged black woman who eperiences a re-awakening of her youth, the scene where the village healer gives her the massage after she get seasick on the ferry... Significant in sooo many ways...
