What is technical report?

My brother is being asked to make a technical report in the company he is working for and he asked me about this. I do not know what this exactly means...

this is a report made for the company based on its policies.

It contains items found in a research made in school. I mean their parts are almost the same. If you make researches in school, you'll make technical reports in the workplace.
