Marketing hype and a pretence that you are buying something better.
Our "local" rural pub has been turned into a posh resturant - its about £80 to eat there for 2 people....like all the farmers are going to go there ??? eh ???
I can feed myself with much more tasty food for a couple of weeks on that. Tried it 4 times, never again. But I guess they don't care, if everyone in Shropshire tries it a few times they will still make loads of cash over a few years.

Well the food isn't always the same as other restaraunts...I was on vacation last month and we ate at a wonderful (expensive) place. Our steak was to die for and the crabcakes were amazing. The chef hand selected every piece of food that he cooked and it wasn't bought off of a food delivery truck and ordered from a list. Our sushi was amazing and was all worth every dollar. And as an added bonus we were treated like royalty..That's why!

You must pay not so much for a meal, how many for an atmosphere, prestige, live music, quality of service.
The difference in the price is that the casual person did not appear behind the next table...

Because of the atmosphere they provide or because of higher quality food.
Also, they may have poor budgeting management so they need higher costs on food.
The "practically" is what may make the difference between a good meal and a great one.

I think the context makes that some restaurants are more expensive than others.
I mean, The music, the lights, the waitress, the ambient in general!
You pay for the place not only for the food you are eating!

You are paying a premium for the "pretense". Check out any place that requires 7 day reservations and you will see a menu that offers chicken for $79.00 a plate.
Give me BBQ any day!

I think it's because the owners want to keep a certain class of people patroning their restaurant. It's kinda like walmart and Bloomingdale's.

its called the free market economy ..... you have money and can decide what to spend it on ..... if all meals were the same price some would not sell as they are not of the same quality .... and even among burgers there are different tastes so you decide what to buy
