Two books that give you an excellent discussion of alternative approaches to treating depression are:
Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine - Murray & Pizzorno
Prescription for Natural Cures - Balch & Stengler
Do not fail to take note of their cautions. Depression can be a serious medical problem. See a medical doctor or psychiatrist if you have a serious problem.

Aromatherapy (i.e., essential oils) can substitute for anti-depressant medication. All natural. **Non-invasive.** Non-addictive. In addition to helping your moods during the day, they can also help you sleep at night .... don't know much about the dopamine part of your question though

You can get velvet beans or dopa beans at a health food store. They contain dopa, which converts into dopamine. If you want to raise serotonin level, 5HTP converts into that neurotransmitter.

Examine your life? Do it really suck as bad as you make it out to be? Stop with the self-pity and do something productive.
