Answer is 1

Why? Compute the last digits of 7^1, 7^2, 7^3, 7^4, 7^5... Do you see a pattern? You should see that they repeat with a period of 4. Then the rest is easy.

Since you only need the last digit you can ignore the rest
7, 7^1
9, 7^2 ignoring all but the ones column
keep multiplying by 7.
3, 7^3
1, 7^4
7, 7^5 this is what you started with so this patten has 4 numbers that keep repeating.

1000 is divisible by 4 so it will end in the same digit as 7^4
The answer is 1

7 ^4 = 2401 the lst digit is 1
last digit of 7^1000 = last of(7^4)^250
which is 1

2006-09-06 18:32:49 · answer #3 · answered by Mein Hoon Na 7 · 0 0

7^1000 = (7 ^4 )^250 = (7x7x7x7)^250 = (49x49)^250

The last digit of 49 x 49 is 1, so the last digit of .....1^250 is 1 too

7*7=4(9) 9*7=6(3) 3*7=2(1) 1*7=7 THEREFORE WE SEE THAT THE SEQUENCE IS 7,9,3,1 WHICH CAN DIVIDE 1000 THEREFORE THE NUMBER IS 1.
