I dont think they call everybody homophobic. A lot of people are called that by heteros too. Based on the definition of the word people who use it should probably find a different word. I doubt that a lot of people actually know the correct definition.

Hate stems from a kind of fear so it is apt when someone is called homophobic when they deserve it. I do not call everyone I know homophobic. I try not to generalize people. Why do you think that gay people have a lifestyle? Why do straight people have a life but gay people have a lifestyle? Gay men do the same things that straight men do so why the difference?

It's been my experience that my heterosexual male friends are homophobic. That's not fear or contempt, dear, it's societal conditioning. I have never had any of my homosexual friends make that remark, so I don't know. It is interesting that you have such a deep perspective on it. Do you suppose that you give it so much thought that you have stopped seeing people as human beings and have assigned categories to them? Since I don't know you, that's your call. It's just a thought on my part. Sometimes in trying to be 'sensitive' we become anything but.

Not all homosexuals call everyone homophobes... I have quite a few friends who are gay, also I have my fair share of days where I act totally like a lesbian (I'm straight)... the only ppl who are homophobes are the ones who are still living in the dark ages where gays had to live in hiding from the rest of the world & keep their relationships a secret.

I have had freinds that are homosexual to the point of cross-dressing, etc... and they have never called me homophobic... in fact.. maybe it is different here... but the only time I have heard the reference homophobic or homophob is in reference to persons who act as if they don't want to be near or around those persons who are homosexual (gay or lesbian)... my ex-husband was never labled a homophob, nor has my boyfriend of 6 years. In fact, my son has never been labled a homophob. Non of these persons are homosexual; however, they are comfortable enough with thier own sexuality that they aren't afraid or concerned enough about any other persons sexuality to be homophic

First of all, being gay is not a lifestyle, it is a sexual orientation. People who are gay come from every culture, background, economic status, etc.
And aren't fear and contempt akin emotions? Both stem from the rejection of something different.

I'm scared of myself if that's what you mean, hahaha. No seriously we all know that you being the tough person you are could never be scared of anything. I love people who call me bad names because they think my homosexuality is wrong, it doesn't make me call them homophobes just jerks.
