After breast feeding they do not have to burp, only during bottle feeding is this important.

They will not get any bubbles in their tummies while breast feeding because there is no air in the breast, just milk.

The distance between their epiglotis and stomach (esophagus) is smaller compared to adults. some babies still need to burp after breastfeeding, but generally they get less air due to the way the tongue compresses the breast. if after 3 mins of attempting between breast or after feeding there is no burp, then its ok. Best way to burp newborn is to sit them up and support hand under chin(watch airways) then pat back. If older infant then lay across legs.

Breastfed babies have to burp because even tho the milk does not contain gas, they suck in some air while nursing. They normally don't have as much as a bottle fed baby, but they do still get it. I always burped mine after each feeding. And if they would not stay awake to eat, I would burp them (try to), it helped to wake them up so they would eat. If you don't burp them, they get terrible tummy aches, and a baby with a tummy ache, is no picinic!!

sorry to sclay, but i breastfed my baby and he definitely needed to burp after feeding. even though there is no air in breast milk the baby is still breathing and some air does end up in their stomachs. they need help getting the air out ie. patting them on the back otherwise it is painful

Your baby will let you know why if you don't because they will spit-up and usually cry uncontrollably from the air in their belly that makes their tummy hurt.

They cannot release the trapped air themselves they do not have that reflex yet to do so. So burp them often.

They get air bubbles in their stomach and it makes them spit up. Their tummys are not as developed as an older baby/child.
