Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide gas. It is chilled to about minus 140 degrees Fahrenheit and makes frost. It is then pressed together to make cakes. It is primarily used to keep foods (especially meats) cold during shipment or short term storage.
It has other uses, too. One was to chill the cylinder liners in some engines to reduce their size enough to be installed.
Cold carbon dioxide is also used in fire extinguishers. It was a common practice in the military to use the fire extinguishers to chill beer.
As far as consuming it, trying to eat it would give you frost bite.
Perhaps you may have seen fake smoke on a TV show or in a movie, usually something to do with a "spook" movie like something about Halloween or such. Water is poured on the dry ice and this produces the fog.

It's frozen carbon dioxide, so no, you don't want to consume it (though you probably already knew that from description).

I once lived with a guy who aspired to be a rock star, and he told me that you can put some water over dry ice to make it fog up like a fog machine.

look up dry ice info.com, and type in your area code to see where you can buy it. I tried looking up prices, but it doesn't say.

It is NOT water at all.It is solid Carbon dioxide. It is used for keeping things cold when shipped because it goes from a solid state to a gas state w/out going into the liquid phase (sublimation). So it won't make things a mess while shipping. I have put it in a glass and poured water over it around Halloween and it looks cool because it makes smoke. But don't ingest the dry ice "rock" it will burn you.

Dry Ice is Carbon Dioxide that has been cooled past its point of sublimation. It is not ice at all. You should not consume it.

Ice with no moisture left. It will have to be in the freezer for a while for it to become dry. I guess it should be OK to consume it if you are talking about the ice that we freeze in the refrigerator.

How long has he been ingesting till now? If this is the 1st time this is got here approximately in months or years of standard ingesting, it in all possibility wasn't the alcohol... in all possibility some thing he ate or drink that day, and the alcohol basically worsened it. Or, in user-friendly terms a bad reaction... or some thing that made the beer no longer trust him, and so on. And... that's no longer too plenty alcohol, relatively. in any respect. appropriate to be certain a doctor, or head to the ER.
