I would like to ask this with the deepest respect to Steve, If the footage of him would help educate others about how to survive an encounter with a stingray, would Steve want the footage to be shown?

Being a west coaster and once an ocean swimmer, I knew better than to mess with them but never knew they could cause you harm like that if you just swam over the top of them. I've seen documentaries with people riding them, which may have been the wrong education. Some nice thoughtful answers, from people who have their act together, I feel the written account is lesson enough and Terri should have the last word on the rest. Thank-you!

I would have to give a huge resounding NO to that question. Can you imagine a child of yours watching your gruesome death? How do you think thousands of children who idolized him, watching that, would ever get over it? OMG, my daughter is 14 and has for the most part "gotten over" her crush of him, but she LOVED him and his show from the time she was 7. The last thing I EVER want her to see is someone she has known and loved (even if from TV) die horribly. And don't give me the line..."if parents don't want their children to see it, they can turn the channel" I'm telling you, if it gets released we will ALL see it even if we don't want to. The media only cares about shock value and it will be all over the channels.

about children watching it? well... theres not much that can b done about that, we make pornography and theres sum moms in it, so there child one day cud c it. so u kinda hav the same problem, this is a bit different i guess ys, but think about it. on tape steve irwin said: if i was to be killed i would at least want it to b filmed. and he always told his camera man no maater what keep rolling. the thing he did the most was crocodile huntig or wrestling or watever... sooo... that would implicate that he would also want that to be filmed, and you would think that seeing a man being killed by an crocodile is much worse than a stingray.

i'm not sayin that the tape should b released (even if it doesnt, these type of things always seem to "leak" to the outside world), i hope his family is taking it well and i will be happy and honor whatever decision they take.

I don't think he would mind but I would prefer that it not be shown.

Stingrays are not aggressive--the action which killed him was a purely defensive reaction by the animal, which is inclined to flee rather than fight.

The tail barb--contrary to some reports--does not contain poison. Poison barbs are located at the base of the tail. The tail is used partly to stabilize the creature and can also be used as a weapon.

Such actions as the one that killed Steve Irwin are extremely rare. It was a reflexive action on the part of the ray and probably the only action that is appropriate would be to be aware it is sharp and to stay out of reach as much as possible.

Isn't it now obvious enough how to survive an encounter with a stingray? The footage doesn't help anyone and it is so very personal now, it should be destroyed so his family can live in peace. They need to mourn, not hear us going on and on.

I believe he would want it released but not as entertainment like limewire.

Would I want to see it?
I think I do, but yet I REALLY don't. Will I at some point watch it probably but not a whole 3 hr start to finish like what would be necessary to get a learning experience out of it

And,
I'm from Kansas... Not likely that I'd ever be swimming with stingrays any time soon

Only 17 people have EVER died from a sting ray encounter, so there would be no statistically relevant educational value - in fact it would probably result in an irrational fear of sting rays causing divers to invent some uneeded dorky protective vest.

Irwin always instructed his camera crews to keep rolling, even if he was being mauled to death by a crocodile. So, I assume from that that he would want the footage to be shown.

No hidden agenda? Whatever, death by stingray is like 1 in 10 billion chance. That is why it is so tragic. There is your education.

i do not imagine the objective is to launch that. it truly is too inner most and actually truly irrelevant, do not you imagine? thinking his kin's very humble and private nature, i'm particular we are able to in no way get our fingers on that tape. a minimum of I particular wish no longer.

I don't think it should be but I know he always said keep the camer's rolling if something happens. If it was me and I was filming it I would have destroyed the film so no one could market it.
