Probably a couple of thousand. But only about a hundred temples are real big and popular. Please check out the Tamilnadu Temples website or the Tamilnadu Tourism Development Corporation's website for more details.

At last count, it was around 10,3,469 - without counting the one built for Khusbooeshwari - or whatever.
