Bacteria Vaginal Infections have a distinct "fishy" odor. It is typically a very noticable smell accompanied by a discharge. This requires a doctor's visit and a prescription of a medication called Flagyl.

Yeast Infections are described as a cottage cheese looking discharge with itching. Typically this type of infection produces no odor. This can be treated with over the counter medications at your local pharmacy. They have one day, three day and seven day treatments. Typically, we advise patients to use the seven day treatments, they are more successful.

There are also normal vaginal discharges that just come with being a woman that have no odor and are just part of being a woman. Alot of women get frustrated and begin douching, which is not a good idea as this changes the PH balance in the vagina and can actually CAUSE infections. The vagina and the cervix are just mucus membranes and the discharge is a part of that.

However, if you are sexually active and not using condoms as a form of birth control, the day after intercourse, you WILL leak the semen of your partner. As he has ejaculated into the vagina, the gravity will eventually allow that semen to spill back out of the vagina. To prevent this, you can use condoms or just wear a panty liner the next day.

I was an OB/Gyn nurse for 6 1/2 years. Hope that helps.
Good luck.

It could be a yeast infection. Try an over the counter pack like Vagisil. Some of them are a one time treatment. If your discharge does not go away within a few days, call your doctor just to be safe.

Does it itch or smell wierd? Sorry I know that is gross but that is an indication too.

No dear it is not normal. There could be some form of infection. Don't freak out yet, it could be something as simple as a bacteria or yeast infection. Yeast infections are usually accompanied with an odor and itching, bacteria can show no signs. If you are sexually active it could be something more serious. My suggestion would be to go to your gyno or local health dept. and have a pap. It may not be time for your annual but you don't want to wait on something like this. Good luck.

OK, most of the time its normal as long as it doesn't smell or have a greenish/yellow color. A lot of times when your pregnant there is discharge but I think its closer to the end of pregnancy. Most of the time health departments are cheap and if your in high school sometimes the counselor has an agreement w/ the health department. Try douching with one that does not have any fragrance.

It sounds like a yeast infection. Try Gynolotrimin for 3 days and see if it goes away. If not go to the Gynocologist.

You should speak with an OB/GYN on this, just to be safe.
