It's been so long since they've been in a pennant race, I forgot what that means.

20 is the magic number but as long as the other teams keep losing we are fine i look at it this way everyday we dont lose a game in the standings is a day closer to the playoffs

It's 20 right now. Any combination of number of Tigers wins added to Twins losses totalling 20 gives the Tigers the pennant isn't it? I believe the Tigers have 22 games left, so if they play .500 ball the rest of the way they win 11 themselves. Minnesota would have to lose less than 9 games in their remaining games to overtake the Tigers so the Twins would have to go 16-8 or better in their last 24 games to overtake the Tigers. But with the 4 game series against the Tigers starting tonight the Twins a sweep by the Twins would put them right there with the Tigers. If the series ends up 2-2 or the Tigers win the series, of course it would reduce the magic number a lot and put the Tigers in much better shape. It should be a very interesting 4 game series.

YEah, they do, its a number that any combination of wins the team in front gets or losses the team right behid them get that add up to that number wins you the division. So if the number was say 10 then, then over the course of the next ten games if the Tigers won 6 games and the team right behind them lost 4 games, then that equals ten and the division is the tigers. same if the tigers won 2 games and the team behind them lost 8 games, etc... but i dont believe they begin an official count of them till it hits 20 and under. The yankees are at 15 now after winning tonight and boston losing.. Oakland is at 18 now i think over Anaheim..and Detroit is at 20 i think over the twins or whitesox

Technically, yes, of course. The real magic numbers are their records against the Twins and the White Sox in the last six weeks of the season. So far, 2-5 against Chicago and 1-2 against Minnesota in that period. Also 1-2 against New York. Nothing magic about that. 3 left against White Sox and Twins each. Tigers have to make a statement.

Yes they do. Their wins and losses vs. their opponents. And even though they had a bad run lately, Jimmy Leyland is the best Manager in baseball, and they will be okay. Last time was 1984, with Kirk Gibson, by the way.

Yes they do. I believe its 23 or 24. It's how many games they have to win for the teams chasing to not be able catch them.
