Should I use them or no? I know that is his way of exploring but if I just use them before naps or bed wouldn't he sleep better? His top front teeth are coming in and they are giving him lots of trouble. He has 5 teeth already and none have given him this much pain. He has a fever, runny nose, I brought him in and Dr said Dimeatapp??? if needed but that does nothing for his pain. I give him motrin and tylenol switch them around. Motrin at nite cuz it lasts longer and tylenol if he has fever during the day. Would you use the gels?

Depending on the age of your child and how he does with jels. Some kids choke because it numbs their throat too much. Make sure you don't apply to much when you are laying him down afterwards for a nap and hold him upright for a few minutes before you put him down. Have you tried the Hylands Teething tablets? They work REALLY good also.

My pediatrician also reccommended Dimetapp for my daughter when she was teething because its a nasal decongestion and will relieve the pressure building up in his sinus from his teeth coming in. I still give my 16mth old a nasal decongestion if she is in a lot of pain from her teeth and it works like magic everytime. When I did use Dimetapp or Robitussin PE for her I didn't have to use Tylenol/Motrin with it b/c it did the trick on its own.

Our pediatrician said not to use teething gels, or any other teething medication, for that matter.

She says that the gels pretty much wash off right away, so any numbing effect is minimal, and the stuff can upset their stomachs.

She recommends Motrin instead. Alternated with Tylenol, as you say, if the pain is really bad.

And she says to use other methods: a frozen washcloth to chew on or something like that.

If he has a fever and a runny nose, his discomfort may not really be related to teething at all. And the symptoms of an ear infection are very similar to teething symptoms, in some cases. Perhaps he needs to be seen?

I have been using Baby Orajel Teething Swabs. My son won't let me rub his gums either, but these are like Q-Tips and he opens right up. Plus, you don't get too much out at once and you can isolate the medicine to a single area. With this I only have to give him Tylenol for a rare fever. Good luck, hope all goes well and you get through this soon!

If you can't rub anything on his gums, try a cold, wet washcloth or teething ring. I used a washcloth with my kids, cuz it's softer. I also did use baby orajel some. Good luck!

Hyland's Teething Tablets are FAR better than the numbing gel. You can buy them at most drug stores, Walmart, etc.

We have had better luck with teething tablets. Wal-mart sells them. They seem to work faster and longer than the gels. If there are side effects we have not noticed them...

What I used was baby orajel, Hyland's teething tablets (all natural and disolve in baby's mouth) and infant tylenol. My son slept all night.

I used it on my daughter a couple of times I don't like them and won't use them because the can be dangerous. She use to throw up after giving it to her the reason why is it can freeze their esophagus it can be more dangerous if it freezes down into their stomach. Babies don't know not to swallow it either. Hope that helps.

BE CAREFUL WITH THE MOTRIN BECAUSE IT COULD AFFECT HIS STOMACH. TYLENOL IS BEST. TEETHING GELS ARE VERY SAFE. I KEPT MY BABY CALM WITH COLD THINGS. SUCH AS JUICE AND ICE. MASSAGE THE GUMS WITH ICE.
