Because the system is screwed up. No one cares about facts, only emotions. It "seems" that men are more likely to be violent, so we just go with that and not think about the fact that she has committed check fraud, welfare fraud, has made recorded threats on my life, and stolen everything in the divorce. If she says that I knocked her down in the middle of the busiest shopping mall in Indiana on one of the busiest weekends of the year, but yet no one saw it, but many people saw her grab me and jerk me around and yelled and screamed at the top of her lungs, well, they just have to take her word for it and arrest me.

Men can get a restraining order on a woman just as easily as women can get them on men. Most men don't get them because they are not as concerned or don't feel as threatened by women. Also men are less likely to call the police during or after a disturbance or altercation with their female counterparts, it is somehow a sign of "weakness".

Men absolutely can get restraining orders on women. I've seen it happen in several cases that I've worked on....

The standard of proof is the same. Is the person seeking the order in reasonable fear from the other party?

That may be easier to prove for women against men, but the process is identical regardless of gender.

I was sent to jail more then once by my own mother, and their wasen't a shred of evidence, and I was still found guilty. But if I called the cops on her they wouldn't even give a damn. Being a man is so hard. Not only do we have to deal with men, but we have to deal with women too. Women only have to deal with men.

Called discrimination. Same difficulty when men are being stalked by women... cops may show up, the girl can try to flee and need to be chased.. but in the long run: no stalking arrest, no ticket for speeding, no ticket for fleeing police.

I've had a lot of male clients who have gotten restraining orders on crazy *** ex wives or girlfriends. (They're just embarassed and aren't so public about having them.. :)

There are more male RO's because males are more violent in relationships as a rule, not always but I'd say 80% of the time.
Weatherman, when you work with victims of domestic violence you can talk **** to me about my opinion being rubbish. I've seen things that no family or children should have to go through, and 80% of the time it's the man that is being violent.

It is not that men cannot get them. It probably is more difficult for a man to prove a women is a threat to him than it is for a woman to prove a man is a threat. I guess that is the downside to being the “stronger of the sexes”.

There is a bit of a prejudice in the system that says a man shouldn't have to be afraid of a woman (unless she is armed). So not true, but the old prejudices are hard to overcome.

Of course they can. Bob Uecker, the radio announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers, actually had one put on a lady who was stalking him. She is not allowed near him, or near any stadium in which the Brewers are playing.
