when not feeling well or suffering a bout of depression. the thing that helps fatest is receiving a hug or a joke?

If I am upset, the last thing I want is someone to touch or hug me, if I am right on the edge of crying, trying to hold it together and someone hugs me, I cry, and when I cry, my eyes swell up for 2 days so I try not to.
If I am just a little depressed, though, I welcome hugs and laughter, and after I laugh or interact with another person, I realize how silly and overreactive I was being to have been bummed in the first place.
Change the things you can, accept the things you cannot, and pray for the wisdom to know the difference.

I think hugs work better but sometimes laughter is easier to come by. You know you can get a hug from someone and wish it was someone else, so the hug is not so great. On the other hand you can grab a favorite video of yours and you can laugh for days.

Yes, it has been scientifically proved that people who have regular hugs or positive physical contact and humor have significantly better survival rates and live longer. See the Texas study on orphans that was done in the early 1950s or 60s. And more has been done since by various researchers. PS Married people live longer than single people.

A hug from the right person helps, a conversation to vent to someone helps and yea, a funny joke sometimes helps. But most of all, medication probly does the most.

Hugs help, as humans we all need anothers humans touch. A joke sometimes isn't enough, but may help for a moment.

LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE!!!! It lifts your spirits & all of a sudden things don't look so bad. It lightens a heavy mood--makes things easier to face... Laughter soothes the soul.

If I'm really depressed, jokes don't help that much. but hugs, shoulders to cry on, and music, help alot

I'm single and I live alone. I am touch deprived. I think that's one reason I get depressed.
