I often wondered that myself, and then came to realize that Yahoo Answers doesn't monitor or screen the kind of material they allow on here. I was once an expert on another similar site a few years ago, and they were very strict about rules. There could be no profanity, no insults, no defamation of character, and questions had to be legitimate questions -- no playing around, no solicitation and no using the site as a chat room. One infraction and you were warned; two infractions and you were ousted. That's a far cry from the way it is on here. Anything goes on Yahoo Answers; name-calling, swearing, insulting, sexually explicit questions -- you name it. Also, I am appalled, not only by the lack of good manners, but by the fact that the participants on this site -- not all, but a clear majority -- haven't the slightest knowledge of spelling, sentence structure, punctuation, grammar, or any of the basics of readable English. I think the whole operation should be revamped. However, I stay on because there are some folks who really need help, and deserve a lot better than some of what they get here. There are some sincere folks who do provide helpful answers. I feel that those people are worth my time and efforts. Thanks for writing.
