All my life i've wanted to work in theatre/film/tv..whether it was acting or doing the production side...however...I some how ended up doing acctg./financial work..and that's all my work experience has been. I've noticed lately that every acctg/fin. job i've had, I've always been miserable and dreaded going to work every day but it paid the bills. I'm at the point right now where I'm having a hard time finding a job in general and if i do it doesn't pay as much as it used to...I haven't given up on the acting/tv/film/theatre dream...but I don't know how to get into that either...and all related jobs to theatre and etc. are low paying/audition/volunteer jobs...which won't pay the bills...so I'm lost and I don't know what to do.

I'm 26 and i currently work at a acctg/financial job that barely pays enough for the rent because they only have me working 12 hours a week I've been applying for related jobs for the mean time but i'm not getting any calls...

so what to do?

There's even less theatre/acting/entertainment related jobs and the ones that are available barely pay above minimum wage...but i do know i'd be happy there regardless...but i need a stable job to pay the bills...

Have you looked into the possibility of maybe some additonal part time work with an agency for actors/actresses or even your local PBS television station? While either of these might be only part time work at equal or better than your current rate of pay, they both would offer you some added exposure to those people with decision making powers in mass media and entertainment sectors.

Just to let you know, not everyone is successful in becoming anything in showbiz. Just look at the people trying out for American Idol. They thought they have it. But only to be horribly rejected in front of millions of TV viewers. Showbiz is a tough world. Ever heard of the phrase "starving artist"? You have to sacrifice a lot especially money, to come near to anything. If you don't like being broke, I suggest you go back to your well-paying job. If you really want to act, join a volunteer troupe in your local area. You can do what you love most, and still be able to pay bills.

You've gotta pay the bills.

Send out resumes like confetti to get a 40-hour-a-week accounting job. take whatever courses you have to take to sit on the CPA examination.

Make sure you take the "Becker CPA review" for the six months before sitting on the examination.

From friends, acquaintences, computer nerds, etc. learn about and become an EXPERT at EXCEL and ACCESS --you will eventually be out of a job unless you understand BOTH accouting and computerized databases.

Once you've got a real finance and accounting job, volunteer for community theatre. You'll never get a second audition unless you have actual experience on the stage. Make it your hobby.
