You can use them as soon as your baby is born. If your baby doesn't do well with one kind then try another. We use the huggies naturals and they are great. Huggies also makes newborn wipes.

I have been using diaper wipes on my daughter since I brought her home from the hospital. I use Huggies Newborn wipes. They are fragrance free and supposed to be ultra gentle. I was given a sample from my hospital when I delivered. I thought that was a good sign. My daughter hasn't had a bad reaction at all and she is 10 months now.
If you are very concerned about the chemicals of the diaper wipes, you may just want to continue to use a cloth and a bit of baby soap like Johnson&Johnson or even skip the cloth and soak the baby's bottom in a bit of water and soap. Just make sure to dry well so there will be no rash.
I would definately recommend that you try some form of diaper wipes after you start bringing baby out of the house regularly, if for nothing but the convenience.

i used baby wipes right from the begining, but i bought the ones that were for sensitive skin. the only time that i don't use the wipes is when one of my daughters has a really bad diaper rash, then i use a warm soft paper towel (viva) with some ivory soap on it.

Costco used to make a diaper wipe by Kirkland Signature, all it had in it was water and aloe. I used those on my son from the begining. They worked great and never irritated his bum. I know what you mean though, my pediatrition says most diaper rashes are caused by diaper wipes and that you should never wipe a baby's bum when you change them unless it has pooped.

Baby wipes tend to contain alcohol, which is drying and irritating to sensitive skin. I've had 6 babies, and did not use baby wipes until I had my last one, and even then, not until she was about six months old. I prefer a clean baby facecloth and warm water, no soap, and lots of petroleum jelly. My babies never had diaper rash even when teething.

Baby wipes are not harmful for a baby. They use them in the hospital. Most of them are hypoallergenic & make sure you get the unscented ones, your baby should be fine.If not a wet wash cloth works.

With my first child I couldn't use diaper wipes cause they would break her out real bad so I used those soft paper towels.
