Ok...what you need at/after 40 is "different" makeup because your skin changes. You may need to get a more moisturizing makeup and just use a lighter hand when applying. If you have good skin, just keep on with what you are doing. I think just taking good care of your skin is all that really needs to be done. I'm 47, and really only have started using concealer for dark circles and a good moisturizer. Don't stress about it. Remember 50 is the new 30, and you're fabulous! (0:

That's not necessarily true. Alot depends upon whether your skin texture has become dryer, or you have little lines, or maybe you're letting your hair naturally gray. If none of those details apply, why change anything? But what woman wouldn't like to be made over, so if I were you I'd go to the nearest Sephora or Ulta counter and try some Bare Eccentials, the mineral makeup. It's so pretty, but looks really natural like you just naturally have nice coloring. Don't let your calendar age dictate what you "have to" do! There are no rules, only suggestions!

I just turned 40, and I've found a few things. For one thing, I have to avoid the darker colors of eyeshadow - it does a really good job of emphasizing the fine lines at the corners of my eyes. I also find that I need to be more selective in foundations. The drug store stuff tends to dry my skin very quickly and not uncommonly causes me to break out. Just what I need at 40 - pimples.
I'm sure you can get advice from other women around you. I would avoid the department store women unless they're over 40 themselves. I've found that their advice generally costs me quite a bit of money.

You can go to a bookstore and look through some books. There are a couple of things I did, you are supposed to start wearing brown mascara and not anything darker, stay away from frosted eye shadows (they tend to settle in the creases accentuating them), start practicing the less-is-more theory. The more make-up applied the more there is to settle in the creases and wrinkles we didn't have in our twenties. For a good eye wrinkle cream try Preparation H, yes, Preparation H. But use it sparingly, it can smell if you use too much. Matte is the way to go for foundation. And drink PLENTY of water. Hope this helps a bit.

I have always worn Mary Kay, and had wondered if I needed to change my Make-up. One day I received a free sample of CoverGirl Radiance in the mail. It changed my whole daily routine. I gave it a try and it was amazing how it felt and covered and still looked natural. I think the Covergirl Website allows you to ask for samples. Try them. Other makeup companies probably also have this as a part of their websites. Worth investigating. Nothing like free samples. I personally hate the mall and would never go there to try on their free samples.

life begins at 40. before makeup, it starts with your skin.
my mum is way older than you but the best thing to have when you're 40 is sunblock (esp. for those who never used it) to prevent pre-mature aging. moisturizers, makeup removers, day/night creams (because dead skin cells stay longer) and cleansers must be present on your vanity table hehehe. you will see benefits when you start a regimen. don't worry you can get some help from estee lauder (or whichever you like), those who can suggest makeups best for your skin type. when it comes to wrinkles, depends on the skin because pale skin is more prone to wrinkles because of the pigment thing goin. use natural skin care products for your daily skin care. finding the right product is usually the one taking long. no smoking, no alcohol and sleep well. your face would look better than a botox enhanced face even with less make up on!

Try to keep things sheer and natural, and avoid cakey makeup as it can exaggerate wrinkles and creases. Stay away from shimmer eye shadow for the same reason - stick to mattes for eyeshadow.
Kevyn Aucoin's makeup books are great - I believe "Face Forward" gives tips for different age groups.

Ask an avon representative-or Mary Kay consultant for one on one or samples. It's mainly the moisturizers or treatments that need to change verses the makeup.

go to a department store counter and ask one of the cosmetic ladys. make sure she's really old . that way she'll know . and I only say really old because all those make up ladys look really good for their age and you just can't say " hey how old are you, nope not old enough to understand my issues". I had to learn the old trial and error way. best tip off all . stay out of the sun and use plenty of moisturizer and sun block.then go get some botox.
