i want to make them to market them, and dont tell me i need lots of ram because the whole point of the lap tops is to run 2 programs and to make them only for 2 programs. i also figure if they have low ram and cant have more then thes 2 programs then they are less likely to be stolen, from my coustomers.

any thing portable has a sign stuck on it saying steal me, so get that idea out of your head. nice idea, but it just wont work. now, im not sure if mby 2 programs you mean pre-emptive multitasking, such as introduced in windows 95, or HyperThreading, which is a waste of money unless you know how to code programs to utilize the feature. Now, building a laptop is a pain, because alot of times the cases and LCD's are propriatary to the motherboard or vice versa, so good luck finding any old motherboard with waht you need to fit the case. ive seen a lot of attempts, with not much luck. now that whole low ram, would be cheap, but it would be crap, so make sure if its running windows or linux, that you have a larger harddrive for the swapfile or pagefile to right to, and a larger L1/L2/L3 Cache on the CPU. hope that helps

Just buy older used machines online. Remove what you don't want on them. Go from there.

Just for your information having less RAM in the machine won't stop some people from stealing them. Some people will steal anything for no reason. If they really did want the machine, they can always upgrade it to what they want.

Some computers have access chips installed in them. You have to know the code to actually start the unit up. I know that some newer Fujitsu laptops have a security chip installed.

You can look at www.ebay.com for laptops to bid on.

I wish you luck with what you want to achieve.
