Slaughterhouse-Five by Vonnegut, Kurt Jr.

Or any book by Vonnegut for that matter. He writes what I consider satire - with a slant you will fin NO WHERE ELSE. If you have never read any of his books you have to give him a try! My favorite book of his is Timequake.

Check out this link to the complete list from Oprah's book Club.

One of MY favorite Fiction writers is Elizabeth Berg. She wrote 'Open House', "Never Change' and the 'Art of Mending'.

Another really good fiction author is Jodi Picoult.

And for Non-fiction, NIGHT by Elie Weisel was a must read.

Uhh, I am not familiar with the works of Faulkner and Thompson, and I insist that you should not confine yourself to books that are similar in nature.

Anyhoo, I highly recommend the novel, LIFE OF PI, by Yann Martel.

That is, if you've not read it ((:

Happy reading!

Personally I like Memoirs. Not exactly a fiction book, but similar in taste. My favorite is Prozac Nation by Elizabeth Wurtzel and Straight Up And Dirty is a close second written by Stephanie Klein.

If you liked Faulkner, I would try Flannery O'Connor. She's also got a great Gothic style, crazy/striking characters, and an intense, visual writing style.
