According to folklore, October's full moon is called the "Hunter's Moon" or sometimes the "Blood Moon." It gets its name from ancient times when hunters tracked and killed their prey by autumn moonlight, stockpiling food for the winter ahead.

This year's "blood moon" will fall on October 6th and will rise at 11:13 pm EST.

Also when the moon goes into an eclipse sometimes the moon will appear reddish. This is caused by the chemicals, dust and water vapour in our atmosphere. This is also what gives us our really pretty sunsets/sunrises. If we had no "bad" stuff in our atmosphere, our sunsets would be plain and not so colourful.

Sadly, the next total lunar eclipse in this area of the world (north America) will not be until February of 2008
