Moving north meant more challenges such as the travel itself, crossing mountains and rivers, changing seasons. etc. Survival of the fittest still is likely. The USA is populated by many nations and the pioneer spirit gives them special grit. Intelligence survives well as does good physical health. The weak die off. I don't know that it means that others are not intelligent but it does seem the the fittest do survive better to procreate.

Smartest people ended up in Europe? How is that??

Egypt (in North Africa by the way) was the earliest "advanced culture" we have in recorded history. Who knows how many cultures before that were advanced but we have no record of them. Middle Eastern nations were way ahead of their time in optics and mathematics. South American cultures invented calendars and concepts of time that we still adhere to. Oriental nations had advanced notions of social structure and metallurgy. Southern Italy had advanced notions of government and society. All this was while Northern Europe was still in the dark ages and filled with barbaric cultures. Northern Europe didn't get "smart" until the Renaissance which was well after all of these other advanced societies.

Actually the smartest humans ended up in Scotland, the outer Hebrides to be exact. It is cleaner and more temperate there. By the way, why do you think humans (homo erectus?) started in South Africa? That is a pretty thin assumption based in limited understanding of more limited evidence.

Also, you should be aware that you can not write Poon Tang in Yahoo answers or your answer will be deleted. Anybody for a Poon Tang revolt?

They were not the "smartest" humans. They were the humans who developed an advanced culture. But the first advanced culture were in North Africa and Mesopotamia.

The Dominant group of people on earth changes over time, no one is on top forever. At one point in time Egypt was supreme, then Rome, At one time It was the Arabs, the Spanish, THe British, Pretty Soon it will be the Chinese. America has only been on top for the last 50 years. All humans are capable of extreme stupidity or extreme intelligence, economic opportunity, geogrpahy and politics all play a part.

Bah, ha, ha.

I believe it's the Asians that score the highest on all the testing.

I think its well established that cultural differences account for differences in educational achievement more than any other factor.

Bushmen, manage to survive in wastelands and deserts. Europeans typically starve without a can opener. If you want to pretend you're better than someone else you need to do something to prove it. Being a member of a particular group isn't going to be enough.

i think that's a really ignorant question. how do you know that all the smart people were in Europe? and what about the indians in the americas? they created calendars, mathmatical systems, built massive structures, had paved roads, armies, and a communication system.

just because for most of known civilization, Europe has been more technologically advanced than Africa, doesn't necessarily mean their smarter. i think you need to do more research buddy.

I think it depends on which era you're talking about. Lots of cultures had their highs and lows in historical advancement. I mean look at the Egyptian and Asian cultures when they had their peak. I think the thing that made the European culture seem so much more advanced is their power hunger. They reached out past their own borders in search of other lands and cultures to exploit and control.
