My PC was zapped during a storm and now I can't even turn it on. Unfortunately, I've got a CD in the drawer and I can't get it out. It's an HP Pavillion and there is no opening to slip a paperclip into to open it. Now what do I do? Can anyone help? Tks!

Straighten out a paperclip and poke it in the very small hole in the front of the CD drive. You should feel it pressing against something a little ways in and will need to apply a bit more pressure to keep going. The tray door should release and open so that you can remove your CD.

You mention no opening, but every CD drive has one as it is a standard release feature unless some part of the HP case is covering it, in which circumstance you may need to remove the computer cover / faceplate.

Three ways:

1) Take a screwdriver to the drawer's front and ply it open. Problem: You'll screw up the CD Player (if it wasn't zapped too).

2) Take the shell off the CPU and pull it out very carefully from the top. That's the easiest way to do it. Only will work if it's a desktop, not a laptop.

3) Take it to a repair shop and pay for someone to perform #2. Cheaper just to buy a replacement of the CD.

Your choice! Good luck!

Probably the opening for the paperclip is hidden behind the front casing cover, try removing it to see. But if it is in a desperate measure situation, just pull the tray out with all you might and strength. Then you can get a new CD-Rom replacement...hehe

This is where the paper clip comes in handy. I keep one with one end straightened out for force-opening a dead or malfunctioning CD-ROM drive. Push the paper clip inside the small hole in front of your CD-ROM drive and the tray should just pop out. It works every time.

Have a techie friend remove the cd drive and then you can get to the disc, then the techie can put it back in...if your computer is fried, you may as well do it yourself since you won't be hurting a dead machine anyways, but you probably can get a friend to do it. It doesn't take long and it is not too hard.

since you have no pinhole, you have to take the cd rom out and de assemble it.

if you pry the face off, you will only take off the front cover and not pull out the drawer.

There is a hole that you can stick a safety pin into on the front. This will open the drawer.

Take a paper clip and straighten it out and poke it in the little hole by the drawer. It should pop out.

There is a little hole just below the CD door, bend a paper clip,
push it in the hole and wala!
