My best friend is bulimic. I want her to stop. What should I do? I told her to stop, I told her what results from being bulimic, she still doesn't understand and still thinks she's a fatass. What do I do? Please answer my question if you know what I should do. Thanks!!!

I'm sorry to hear that your friend is struggling. Is she in any kind of treatment? Have you tried talking with her? Here's an article for helping a friend or family member with an eating disorder: http://www.edreferral.com/helping_loved_ones.htm

I would encourage her to seek help--at whatever level of care is comfortable for her. She really needs to be medically monitored and to have a therapist. If she's open to it (which I am guessing she isn't), a nutritionist and support group would be helpful too. She would also benefit from seeing a psychiatrist and being evaluated for medication.

Here are 2 links for ED info and treatment resources (therapists, nutritionists, inpatient facilities, etc.):

Good luck. I hope YOU have some support too!

13 is generally the age when most teenage girls really start to try and lose weight. In some circumstances, this can end up having terrible consequences. First thing you might like to try is by getting some professional advice or by giving her a book on why it is bad to be bulimic. Also, if the situation gets out of hand then it is certainly necessary for the parents to know. Another tactic which can sometimes work but occasionally backfire, is to buy some celebrity magazine and every time that you see a celebrity that is unusually thin, for example Nicole Ritchie, tell her how horrible you think that looks and say that this must be incredibly detrimental to her health. Make sure that she is always tempted by food, and also make sure that all of her friends are aware that there is something wrong, even if you do not tell them that she is bulimic. Finally, if none of these work, then find your biology or science teacher and allow them to explain to her how terrible it is for her health to be bulimic and let them tell her how she can die that way. I hope this helps! Good luck!

sorry to hear this. On the real you call some groups or the hospital and see if there is help in the area. Talk to her doctor yourself and let him know you are really concern. Let your friend know that she is beautiful and i love her and i dont even know her. Let her know that you will be there for her no matter what and that will help her go threw this and solve this problem. Love her and talk to her and pray with her let her know and feel the care and love you have for her. HOPE SHE GETS BETTER SOON

make your friend feel better about herself, like saying something like 'I don't understand why you think you're fat, you look pretty damn skinny to me.' Tell her about eating disorders and how it's not how fat you are, it's about how healthy you are, and puking up your food isn't healthy. And REMEMBER, therapy doesn't always work out, it might seem like it does, but sometimes it only makes thing worse.
