My son pooped every time I changed him for a while. But he was breastfed, I don't know about babies that are fed formula.

If you breast feed you infant might...

a) have a small watery yellowish bowl movement with every wet diaper.

or

b) not have a bowel movement at all.

These are both very common for breastfed infants. The reason is that the baby uses almost everything in the breast milk so there is no need to have a chunky bowel movement everyday, or even every week.

If your baby is on infant formula and doesn't have a bowel movement within a couple of days there is need for concern. Your infant should poop at least once a day or every other day if they are on formula. The reason for this is that formula isn't nearly as good for your child as breast milk and so they don't use everything that is in it. So they need to poop a lot more. Your baby's bowl movement should be lose and soft, not hard and chunky - if it is you should probably call the pediatrician and see what they say.

Have a great night - try to get some sleep. I know it'll be hard with a 2 week old though!

It depends on whether your baby is breast or bottle fed. Bottle fed babies usually have a bowel movement once or twice a day, around the same time. Breast fed babies, on the other hand are very individual. Some will have a bowel movement after every feeding, and some nurse every 2 hours, because mother's milk is much more easy to digest. Yet, some breast fed babies will only have a bowel movement once a week, then it's huge, and everywhere. Breast fed babies usually have softer stools also, and tend to be less stinky -- more like a Yogurty smell. Don't worry unless your baby has obvious runny stools, or is constipated and can't poop.

"A baby who is nursed should go usually every time they nurse. "

If that statement was true I would would be changing a diaper every hour.

a breastfed baby can go days w/o pooping. The first month should be maybe 2x a day . 5-6 wet/dirty diapers a day.

You can try taking a nice warm bath with baby. This can help with some heat on the belly.

If the baby has not pooped in over 5 days watch out cause when it comes ...it comes!!!

BTW is your baby breastfeed or formula fed?

The baby should be pooping about 2-3 times a day. If the baby is constipated give the baby a little bit of water before a feeding. Put warm towels on it's tummy and massage it's tummy for a little bit. If the umbilical cord is off put baby on it's tummy too. This will help baby pass gas, helps with the fussiness and definitely helps to move the poopy right along.

Depends on what the baby is being fed. A baby who is nursed should go usually every time they nurse. A baby on formula usually less than that.

If you are breastfeeding, see the link below.

At this age expect:

5 - 6+ sopping wet diapers per day

3 – 4+ dirty diapers per day - stools at least the size of a Quarter

I agree with the first 2 people. Wait until he is 9 months and you have to fight him for a diaper change! HA!
