This varies by college, so no one outside your school can answer this for you. I can tell you that in most cases, you can still drop your classes for a week or so after classes start without any financial penalty. Check with your advisor or your Dean's office.

You have been assigned an advisor, and this is what he/she is for. Also each school has its own policy about dropping and adding courses. Check with your financial aid office and find out what the rules at your school are.
