I have Windows XP. The kids were playing with the computer and now I have lost part of my desktop screen and any pages after that.
About 1/5 of the left hand side of my desktop and anything on the internet is black (vertical).
Does anyone know what caused this and how to fix it?
Thanks.

If you have a CRT monitor not LCD, you will have small pushbuttons or wheel controls on the front or right under the screen. You need to find the Main Menu and adjust the Vertical and Horizontal SIZE controls till the picture is just smaller than the screen. You should see a black stripe on all four sides. Then adjust the Vertical and Horizontal CENTERING till the picture is exactly in the center of the screen. Now go back to the SIZE controls and adjust the size till it just fills the screen top, bottom and sides. Keep going back and forth till you have it to your liking and exit the setup. Some monitors have a reset to factory specs button if you have one of these just push it, everything will return to normal. If you don't have buttons on the monitor and don't have the manual that came with the monitor, you can do a Google search on (Model# of monitor + User manual) and read that to see how to do a setup.

I would check in the back of the PC to verify the cable from the screen is completly connected, If it is Sounds like it is time for a new monitor. I do not think its any software issue.
