There lived in the City Of Elves a warrior who fell in love with a preistess of Avalon whom he knew not by name or even sight. They had met several times under the High Moon in cerimony and dress. Each time they met, their eyes would meet, and each time they left his heart would grow heavy at the loss. He beseached the King of Elves to speak to the Queen of Avalon for the hand of this unknown preistess.
while the young warrior spoke with his king the madien waited in Avalon sure the warrior thought her invisible, as for all their mettings he had never once spoke to her. Each time they met, her heart would sing with joy, and at parting, it would become more than she could bear for him not to have spoken to her again. She spoke to her Queen of the matter and asked leave to go into the Kingdom of Elves and learn their ways that she might finally get her love to notice her.
As they each rushed to the other land, neither knew what the other wa doing, The madien reached the Elven lands, the warrior that of Avalon. Each left for home with a heavy heart at missing the one they so desired. On the trip back a strom broke and the only shelter lay half way between the two land. So each found their way into this cave. As he entered he heard her cry and his heart tore in two at the sound.
Why do you cry? he asks. The one I love knows me not and was not there when I went to the Elves. Do not dispair he tells her, the one I wish to marry was not in Avalon when i went there. They turn towards each other and their eyes lock. In that moment they know the truth of who the other is. From that time on they were never apart.Love may not always know who you are at first, but it still knows who you are ment for.

the most romantic myth i have had the pleasure of hearing was of koton, a pagan god of death, pain, and mutilation. before he became all that he was a peaceful god but he fell in love with a human who was murdered by a mean fellow. koton took the form of human, found the guy, and spent three days torchuring him. after he died, koton would not let him slip away, he drug the guy back to his kingdom and spent about 600 years pealing his flesh from his bone and indusing onto him pain the likes that hell can not imagine. he became twisted and evil, more so than satan or any other force known to the gods. he now spends eternity bathing in the blood and lusting after the mutilated flesh of humans unfortunate enough to enter his realm. all this because he lost his true love.
think its crazy? if you ever loved someone as much as he loved her, you might do the same... but according to legend no human or god has the ability to love as koton once did.

The Greek myth about Cupid and Psyche. Even though the only reason he fell in love with her is because he accidentally cut himself with his own arrow.

My all time favorite is where there is this very poor couple. The woman has long, beautiful hair that her husband adores. And he has a very valuable watch that belonged to his father. They loved each other so much that she decided to cut her hair and sell it to buy him a chain for his pocket watch. And he decided to sell his watch to buy her a beautiful barrett for her hair. On Christmas morning they exchanged gifts and realized that neither needed the gift that the other one had sacraficed so much to provide. The only gift they needed was love!

I have to say, any tale where the guy wins over the girl's heart of stone is absolutley my favorite. Ummm....no specific one, but I love The Little Mermaid--the one where she dies.
