I have been on many antidepressants over the years. Some of it was due to having a deformed right ear, which always made me feel different. I was also prescribed medication for post partum depression (two kids 14 months apart) and then a few years ago I became REALLY addicted to caffeine (two pots of coffee a day, plus several sodas), and it kind of screwed with my head. Been medication free for about two months now. I'm 31 by the way.

Yes I have been on anxiety and depression medications, several different kinds, from age 15 to 18. I am 20 now...and I don't take anything...

I suppose it is a chemical imbalance that caused my depression. I was first diagnosed with depression and schizoaffective disorder. I didn't receive the correct diagnosis of bipolar type I, until 10 years later. Initially, I was given antidepressants, which are bad for people with bipolar disorder. Now I'm taking mood stabilizers, anti-psychotics and anxiety medication. I'm 32.

Was on various prescribed antidepressants for 4 years, from age 20 to age 23. The feelings of depression began to surface from years of mentally unprocessed, perceived life-problems, as a result of pre-occupation with certain things in everyday life and external priorities, at the expense of hearing my internal self.
(process that for a few minutes...).

Depression is not an 'imbalance in the brain' . That's like saying 'we' or 'consciousness' or our 'spirit' is "an assembly of chemicals". Depression is either a life obstacle for your spirit, or consequences of past actions, undealt with. A resurfacing, if you will, of previous trauma and an OPPORTUNITY to come to terms with it and transcend it.

Medication, unfortunately, beclouds your issues by shortcutting the discipline to earn happiness, and undercuts freewill by simplifying "self" to chemical reactions.

Been off of the medications for 4 years (27 now) and life has improved from the medicated condition AND from the previous problems I had prior to taking it. My attitude has changed to an aggressive, active approach to what my mind perceives and my brain processes. An aggressive and active approach to what I choose my life is about. It's about making small decisions about who you are, who you will be and what kind of things you want present in your life. It's about separating what SEEMS to predominate right now and what you expect from life as an overriding theme. In other words, you stick to the perspective of what you've decided your life is going to be, even though in a particular moment, you don't seem to be manifesting that decision. The patience earns you good feelings.

Yes... years ago (age 16).

Reason was later found to be a misdiagnosis.

Good luck!
