Is not only christian teaching ,is the fact that MANKIND in its most primitive forms harbour a belief in a Supreme Being, Spirit, God , the Mystery, we have in us the capacity for Spiritual beliefs ,wchich goes with the Esence of us as humans beings in a spiritual self, so my belief is; that creationism and evolution must be thaught , why should the students learn only ONE side of the story? Since God was re-moved from the schools ,the vandalism, killings, and illeteracy is RAMPANT! Black and Hispanic children have been beat up badly by the public schol system , the churches must do something to educate these children ,as most of their parents have a religiuos belief and cannot afford the cost of the private schools, the public schols are a breeding ground for the addh, pills, humilliations, and not teaching the [hispanics, blacks] the children the same! I know! I speak from experiences and the consequenses of this hate to God or religiuos beliefs ,racism, from a racist system.

Though I do believe that both should be taught in schools. I also believe that when they took prayer out of school and religion started to be vilified, the whole country started going down the toilet, BUT

Having gone to a school whose population was 70% or so black versus white...I can assure you that they recieved the same educational opportunities as anyone. If someone made it or not had nothing to do with the classroom instruction, teacher bias (since I worked with many of the same teachers years later as an adult), or any unfairness. It all had to do with parental support. Those children who had parents that were actively involved in their childs education (meaning they went to PTA meetings, met the teachers more than once or twice a year, knew when report cards were issued, volunteered at some level, and knew what was being taught in each subject...) succeeded. Those children knew their parents cared and weren't just giving them lip service. And please don't tell me that some parents aren't capable of that kind of involvement because you don't have to be educated to encourage your children to do well. I can name peer after peer that lived in a shack in the middle of a field whose parents couldn't read or write, but they did well in school and thus in life.

The two biggest factor in succeeding in school involves the brain and it's capabilities that a child is born with (did mom eat enough, take some vitamins, get some pre-natal care...it's all free these days).

And secondly, and most importantly, the involvement and genuine concern of the parent(s).

So I do believe that we need some moral structure back in schools. I do believe that society as a whole is going down the toilet. The outright hatred of religion being one factor in that decline...others being television trash and the lack of any limits or boundaries, musical influences on children, extreme violence in video games, children spending the most impressionable times of their lives in daycare... the list goes on.

Don't try to simplify the issues so much. And please don't try to scream racism when that's not a big factor. It does exist, but it's not hurting those kids the way you would think.

I know this from my own life experiences, my time in the classroom, and from my husband's experiences as a Puerto Rican growing up in Illinois. (And by the way, racism is far more prevelant in the North than it is in the South)

Good luck finding some solutions to this great problem. But I fear that it's only going to get worse. Revelations describes it to a T.

I see where you are coming from. Creationism however, does not belong in the school system. Don't get me wrong, learning morals is more important than learning equations but creationism is not a science. I say this because a scientific theory must be able to be proven wrong by observations and experimentation. Creationism cannot be proven wrong but if somebody finds an animal that completely defies natural selection then the theory of evolution is thrown out. Therefore, it does not belong in the basic school subjects: science, math (I think those two should be the same but thats another argument), english, foreign languages and history. The values taught in religion are beneficial to a child and I believe that parents should begin to take responsibility and teach their children morals on their own. It is the parent's fault that public schools are low on morals but not the school system's.

I completely agree. I go to a Christian school and even they teach both while the public school, which is suppose to be composed of everything, only teaches one side of the story. Its rediculous. Im not saying they should teach just creationism either. I dont understand why they are so biased.

You know what is really scary...your spelling! In answer to your question; you cannot teach both, that confuses kids. As far as Black and Hispanic kids go, they are no different than White kids who are believers. Your point about Blacks and Hispanics is not a sound one at all. Believers in general get battered by the "system" and that includes teachers that are believers too. I know, btdt.
