Cheap way to increase HP output is adding a CAI (cold-air intake), you can even make them yourself from pvc (I did this on my 90 Celica so I know it can be done) and a reuseable filter (i.e. K&N), and a couple of rubber adapter boots, spent less than $20 on all the parts + the filter (another $38) and i never had hydrolock problems either.

there r a few things like buy a higher output coil. put a set of bosch 4 plugs in. get a set of accel 8mm plug wires. im sure if u look around u can find a high performance cap and rotor. put in synthic oil. put in a cooler thermostat. add an oil cooler and trans cooler. use high octane gas or go to ur local parts store every time u fill up and buy some octane booster. also u can poke a hole in the back side of ur muffler. this will be loud and it is not legal but ive never had any probs with the law except for inspection time, but it does give u a few more horses. i know this as i have done it to several of my cars and trucks american and domestic. only make the hole about the size of a half dollar or a little bigger. it makes ur exhaust flow better with less restriction.

the 1990 camry four Cly car is just a family hauler. Do not try to make it something it is not. Horsepower adders cost mega bucks and should not be placed on old motors unless you like to see engine failures. KA-BOOM
