That is completely personal. I have known several women who have kept the ring because after all it was a gift technically, but if the relationship ended mutaully and the ring was an expensive investment i would say give the ring back

Depends what sort of person you are.. personally I would think the right thing to do would be for you to return the ring as you are the one breaking it off.. If he was the one breaking it off I would ask him if he would like it back.. But really do you want to keep the ring to remind yourself of the break-up?? I wouldn't... If you can't come to an agreement and the ring is worth a bit sell it and split the cash between you..

I kept mine nothing wrong with it it was a gift to you and i still wear it just not on the same finger.
Maybe also that he will ge over is baggage and come back for a 2nd chance if you are willing to give it then you can use the same ring. It is totally up to you.
All you people that say give it back what is a guy going to do with a ring? how could you ever give a new person that same ring????????

Unfortunately for many engaged women breaking up with their fiancees, the ring is always the property of the guy until after marriage. It's considered part of the marriage-contract by the court. Since you are not getting married, you don't get to keep the payment.

If you don't like the person, what's there to like in the ring? Seriously give it back to him. It cuts any loose ends where he hopes you might reconsider in future.

Even if something does happen in future, better to start on a clean slate. Give it up girl, I'm sure it's more satisfying to buy youself a similar ring at any shop.

If you break the engagement, you return the ring. That's the rule. That's how it's done and it's only fair. Etiquette demands that you also return any gifts he gave you, and his picture. That's what happens when you end a relationship.

I think he would since he bought it and it was considered an engagement ring? If it was just a ring... a gift... then you would keep it. Im not sure though

The one who calls off the wedding gives up the ring. It's a verbal contract and you promised you would marry. If he breaks the contract you get to keep it.

Wow. I'm sorry to hear that. He should keep the ring because you are breaking it off. The person who breaks it should return it.
