stay away from coffee and anything that has caffine in it, like chocolate etc.................. then go to walmart and buy yourself a bottle of melatonin 1mg or 3 mg take 2 of them just right before bedtime and call me in the morning. They are all natural. And non addictive.

If you suspect you are bipolar, you need to see your doctor for a check up and blood tests to rule out medical problems. Then you need to see a psychiatrist for an evaluation. My suggestion is to see the doc, but a psychologist instead of the psychiatrist. There isn't anything is what you've described that meets the bipolar criteria, but it sounds like you do have some things going on. A psychologist is qualified to test, diagnose, and they do therapy. They just can't prescribe medication. If one determines that you are bipolar or any illness that requires medication, s/he will refer you to a psychiatrist for meds. Btw, I'm answering this way because elation is subjective. That is your only reference to mania. Cutting, ED, difficulty with relationships all separate from bipolar. A single hallucincation usually doesn't make for a diagnosis. Also, if it occured when you were neither manic or depressed, it would not be bipolar. Further, there are medical illnesses that can cause both elation, manic-like symptoms, and hallucinations. See a doctor to cover the medical stuff. Then see a psychologist.

Welcome to the club - this is a common problem - especially as you get older. Some times it because you have too much on your mind. I found my self falling asleep in a chair watching TV and then when going to bed, of course I suddenly was wide a wake. So one night I simplify covered my self with a blanket while watching TV and just let nature take it's course and later if I woke, I either just stayed in the chair and slept through or if I did go to my bed I would sometimes fall asleep faster. But usually found sleeping sitting up was better. Many TV now have "sleep timers" to turn it off automatically if you happen to fall a sleep.

I find when that happens to me it would mean that it is the only time I have to get the things I want done. But I try to get my bed room really dark. No lights and that helps. I do not take pills to help me sleep. I try to relax. That is one thing that is hard to do. But just think of an island with the sound of water flowing. And you have your hands moving threw it ever so gently. Then add some that you really like, (husband or boyfriend or who ever). Than your relaxing will have started you will be able fall asleep. It may not work the first time but do it every night and it will work.

you may be suffering from a medical condition. Insomnia is common and while not drinking coffeee or sodas before bed might help you should track your sleep habits n see if your level of exhaustion is due to activity or not. if you are still exhausted without excertion then you may have chronic fatigue syndrome.
if you have the time try a sleep aid to see if that helps. if not ask your doctor to test your blood levels
also when it comes time to go to bed make sure the room is cool , and dark so you can concentrate on sleeping.

I used to be extremely tired but my brain wouldn't sleep. I started writing an evening daily diary which cleared my head and allowed me to get to sleep
