You can't hook up your ethernet hub to a standard phone jack. But if you buy a USB to ETHERNET adapter you can plug it into any available USB port on your laptop then connect to your router. Fry's Electronics sells a TRENDnet USB to FAST ETHERNET adapter for about $15 bucks. I bought 2 of them. Model TU-ET100C. You can check for that model number online also.

You cannot connect a standard phone jack to a Lan cable.

You either need an ethernet port or a USB ethernet adapter, or PCMCIA adapter
