There are many factors that come into picking the right type and size of ski for you. Questions you need to answer include:
1. What type of trails do you like to ski on (groomed, back-country, moguls, park and pipe, etc.)?
2. How long have you been skiing and how would you classify yourself?
3. What are you skiing on now?
4. What do you want your skis to do for you.
The answers to these questions will help decide on the right ski and then what size you should get. Some skis that have an aggressive side cut (the shape of the ski) a person can tend to go shorter. You must also remember that skis may look the same from different companies, but material construction can also make a difference on your size.
You should really go to a specialty ski shop. The employees are trained to help you get into the right equipment.

This depends a lot on you. Some people prefer shorter skis, some people prefer longer. It also depends on how old your skis are as recently skis have become wider and wider. I would go with the chin for the type skiing you suggest.

If between sizes, opt for the shorter pair. The shorter, wider shaped skis will still hold on hardpack, float in powder, and skirt between moguls.
