i just bought a memorex dvd burner, it came with the dvd burner software. I inserted a Non protected dvd in the PC's drive and try to open it on the burning program but my computer does not recognise the disk, so it thinks there is nothing in the drive. Do you need a drive that plays dvds? I have a dell pentium4. i am really confused. i just spent 6543216 $$$ on this, and cant get it to work!! help!!

ok let me explain better....
i inserted "zombie" into my computers CD drive. I have a blank DVD in the external burner. I opened NERO to find the file from my computers drive, but it does not recognise the DVD and says "insert disk into drive" but it is already in there. Why does it think the drive is empty?

sorry if i was confusing at first. it sounded better in my head :)

Okay...your CD drive cannot read this "zombie" disc because it is a DVD. To reiterate some facts->DVD's are for DVD drives and cannot be read by CD drives (unless it is a DVD/CD combo drive which you dont have).
Put the dvd movie into your DVD drive. Use nero to make a "disc image" of the movie onto your hard drive (only if the movie is not protected). After you have made the image, take "zombie" out of the drive and insert a blank dvd in. Then use Nero to burn the disc image onto the blank dvd.

Try a different type of media...I use DVD-R and they work with all my DVD burners but I have heard that the DVD+R's will work on some and not on others.

Nero doesnt like external devices...lol Try to find a different free program that burns dvds AVS Media (or AVS Disc Creator) and see if that works.

Oh....... well yeah somethings up with the D: drive (whatever you have installed in your computer). Can your cd drive in your computer read DVDs or have in the past.

You didn't write what operating system your computer has. Knowing the OS is a great help in understanding the environment.
I'm going to assume you have MS Windows.
MS Windows has generic drivers, so I doubt that this is a driver issue. I recently installed a Samsung DVD drive and MS Windows automatically took care of driver issues.

To see if your computer recognizes the drive, go to Device Manager and see if it shows up there. You might see it, but shows a problem. If Device Mgr doesn't see the drive, then the drive is either not connected correctly or is bad. You could have bad cables. But the odds point to a bad drive.

Because your burning software is looking for an image
you need to make an image of the data that is on the DVD onto your hard drive then put a blank DVD into the burner and hve the burning software copy the image onto the blank DVD

If you "Inserted a DVD into your computers CD drive" then that is your problem CD Drives will not read a DVD! You will have to put the source DVD in the DVD Drive tell Nero to burn it and swap sorce and blank discs till it finishes.

DVD burners will work in most PCs. It is likely the wrong type of blank DVD. If it is a DVD-R, try a DVD+R. I bet that is the issue.
