If it interests you, go for it.

Since it is middle school, it is perfectly normal to try new sports. And in a sport like track, it is normal to try a variety of events. Some you will like, others you won't. Just don't be afraid to try any one of them.

As for your worries about being good enough, it won't matter. As long as you try hard and don't make it impossible for others to try their hardest, you will be fine. Being part of a track team is like being part of any other team, the same ideas work there.

Besides, if you give it a year and don't like it, you don't have to go out next year. But you don't know unless you try.

Running in track and field is a great way for athletes to build up their speed and endurance. A lot of athletes who play some other primary sport use track/field in their off seasons to help them do just that, and to stay in shape. If that's your goal, go for it. The workouts alone will help you. If you want to join the team as your primary sport, you'll get better as time goes on, and start to find where your greatest strengths are, so you'll know what events you'll be competing in most often.

try it the worst that can happen is you don't like it. My daughter never ran a day in her life and tried it this year and loves it if you have a good coach they help you build the stamina and endurance you need slowly as the season progresses good luck and have fun

try it. The coaches dont expect you to be perfect right away. They will let you try a number of different events to see what you are good at.
you will learn form and endurance during the season, and that will make you better for next year.

Go for it. You'll never know if you don't try. Yes, you would be amazed how fast you can get your endurance back. You're young and healthy. I think it would be great.
