Dell E1405 or E1505 they are a good midrange price and configured online on the Dell site they can be configured to be a powerful laptop for a affordable price tag... I am gona order a E1405 in a few weeks.

i think you should wait a little longer for the new intel merom which is the dual core 64bit cpu from Intel that's really powerful and yet consumes little power,
but if you're desparately buy a laptop with turion x2 these are also 64bit which means vista proof.
you should be able to get a nice deal on the turionx2 since amd is agressively cutting prices on these processors.

ya, vaio are pretty user frinedly, followed closely in that category by acer and dell. as far as performance, get a dual core no matter what!! almost all PCs and MACs have them now bc its basically like running two regular processors on one computer.
