It depends on the time of day. A formal wedding at 10AM would require a different dress code than one at 6PM.
For general, traditional looks:
Morning and afternoon wedding should be either pantsuit or dresses no longer than tea (mid-calf) length.
Evening can be anything you want. These are the most flexible.
Night weddings are dresses no shorter than tea length. These are usually more formal, and require the long dresses and gowns.
It's better to go more conservative when you are unsure. A wedding is not the place to go sleazy. It's always better to be sophisticated and womanly. Stick with either the pants, or a tea or ankle length dress. I would go with the pants for warmth. You never know just how cold it's going to get in the winter.
Good Luck!

A suit looks good be it pants or skirt (midlength is fine) and shows that you have made an effort to get something special. Have a lovely day.

There are these really classy black pants that have a sheer layer over them that makes them look like a skirt. You can also always go with a classic black dress.

Long black dress, with gloves, if at nighttime. Hair up, classic makeup.
If the wedding is during the day, black dress to the knees, hair up, nice sandals.
