I applied for two positions at a local hospital as dietitian and a house-keeping aide. Do you think I can get away wearing jeans? I'm planning on wearing the jeans with a black dress shirt (button-down) and a pair of black heals (wedges), my hair will be worn in a bun with a side part. I'd have to wear scrubs for both positions (if hired). I think it'll be ok since neither of the positions are clerical. please help, I'm going nuts!!!!

You want the employer to believe that you are the best person for that position.

If the employer had to choose between two people with the same qualifications but one wore jeans to the interview and the other wore something more professional, who do you think they would offer the job to first?

From an HR perspective, you should NOT wear jeans. I know you'll be wearing scrubs at work, but the interview is what gets you hired. At the very least wear khaki pants and a nice shirt. You need to dress up to show that you appreciate the process and want the job.

Sounds okay based on the position as long as the jeans are not faded or overly faddish. Neutral colors are safe earth tones with a contrasting accoutrement or accessory. I think it sounds good ! Most important is you're CONFIDENCE! Don't be pushy but portray confidence, honesty and make eye contact. My grandmother always said "Hey,, no one knows you got a hole in your drawers unless you tell them". So don't worry! Approach this as if you are in charge but humbly if that makes sense. What has gotten me points before is looking for employer info on the web and if appropriate add some small talk about some relevant info. Such as "I saw some nutritional advisories listed on your web site" or "I noticed that you just signed a new laundry contract" Just an example! But it shows interest and effort that most people wont think of.
GOOD LUCK
TJ

Avoid jeans and other casual attire. This is an interview, so nicer clothes are in order. If you have a suit, wear it. If you don't have a suit, try a nice skirt and blouse or nice pair of slacks and blouse. Accessories, such as scarves, a classy necklace, or earrings, can be an affordable and easy way to dress up a skirt/blouse or slacks/blouse ensemble. Good luck!

It doesn't matter whether the position is front office or not, it is always best to dress up for an interview. Wear a dress or skirt and top, not too short and no exposed midriff. Use conservative make-up and jewelry. Take out the nose and tongue piercings if you have them.

Whether you like it or not, your employer is evaluating you partially on your appearance, and the wayj you look tells him/her how serious you are about the job.

Never wear jeans to any interview. A conservative outfit of khakis or dark slacks and a simple blouse, little jewelry, simple shoes.
