No, this analogy is wrong for many reasons. First of all, most of the land being "invaded" in the US by Mexicans once belonged to Mexico. We stole it from them, and they have a much longer history with the south west than we (we being white Americans) do. More importantly, when "barbarians" attacked Rome, they were just doing it for plunder. The Hispanic immigrants are here to work, raise families, and want to become citizens. If the situations were reversed and the Goths had wanted to work in the Roman Empire, Rome would have welcomed them, since they were short workers at that time.
Yes, this analogy is right for a couple of reasons. The US is basically an empire, although we don't call ourselves that. Borders are often broken down when a society is nearing collapse. It happened in Rome, China, Mesopotamia, and now here. I think that the problems that we have are internal, not external. Plus, we're definitely heading toward have one all powerful leader.

That's such a silly, extreme thing to say. Extremism can lead to fanaticism which can lead to violent acts. When you demonize a people, killing them can be seen as acceptable. The Latino people will hopefully cease backing the Repubs and begin to support the Democratic party. The Latino people had supported Bush's conservative compassionism and was probably the small lead that led to his two terms as President. Now the neocons won't have that support. They have shot themselves in the foot on this one.
