I have been on the pill for 6 months, and I am great with keeping it on time... but for this month I started my period early, like a week early and it has yet to stop... but it is light... anyone had this before? Or any idea why?

I was on the pill for twelve years, and this happened to me a couple times.

I asked the doc, and he said that birth control pills are allowed to be "off" by a margin of 23%. Not enough to be ineffective against pregnancy, however, off enough to cause some bothersome irregular bleeding. Sometimes I would have my period the last week of the pills instead of the inactive week. Sometimes it would last two weeks.

The doctor said not to worry about it unless it persisted for several months, which it never did.

Some women on birth control not only get light periods but after a time stop having them all together. It comes from getting too much of one hormone and not enough of the other. Have a talk with your doctor about it. Depending on which one you get too much of it can also cause mood swings and weight gain.

I'm on the pill and mine does that sometimes....my OB/GYN said that I just may need a little more of one of the hormones but it does not affect the reliability of the pill.
