Strange as this may sound - moles are an indication of a healthy yard. Moles eat up to their own body weight in insects every day - typically earth worms. So if you have moles then you must have lots of worms who make for very healthy garden soil.
Of course you can use an insecticide to kill the insects, but then you have a "dead" zone. Insects are part of the ecology of soil and unfortunately with them, sometimes comes moles.
There have been and are many recommended solutions to this challenge but I think the best one I have heard is to get the guys together for a few beer and then send them out to relieve themselves around the perimeter of the area being troubled. They'll just be marking their territories and the moles will detour to some other healthy yard.
Moth balls, bubble gum, Frittilaria bulbs, garlic and so one are all srtong smelling plants that - it you are lucky - sometimes work as well because of their odor. Moles do not eat them, nor do they eat poison. Flooding has been know to work, temporarily, but likely because all the worms drowned.
Good luck, but look on the positive note - you have healthy soil.

I have had both voles(look like moles but eat plants) and moles (they dig all the tunnels that hump up in your yard and eat worms, grub, etc. What I have found works is putting moth balls down their holes. They hate the strong smell and move-- usually next door! Good Luck!

I've used traps, they don't work. I used pellets, they don't work. I finally got where we would sit back at watch then dig, see the ground move, dig their butts up and dispose of them either by carting them miles away or you could kill them. My husband would rather relocate them.
